A Second Chance at Life and Livelihood

At just 25 years old, Sudip Das has already faced challenges that would test anyone’s strength and determination. Hailing from Hijuli Rashi Para in Ranaghat, Nadia district of West Bengal, Sudip comes from a low-income family struggling to make ends meet. His father earns a livelihood by selling fish in the local market, while his mother works as a domestic helper. With a monthly family income of nearly ₹15,000 and mounting debts, continuing education became

difficult, forcing Sudip to discontinue his studies after the 9th standard and begin working at an early age to support his family.

Before the accident that changed his life, Sudip worked in hotel management at the Old Harbour Hotel in Fort Kochi for nearly six years. However, following a tragic accident that resulted in an 82% locomotor disability, Sudip’s world was turned upside down.

The aftermath was physically, emotionally, and financially devastating. He struggled with severe health complications, including bedsores, and went through a prolonged period of depression. Unable to work and dependent on others, Sudip lost not only his livelihood but also his confidence and sense of purpose.

A turning point came when he enrolled in the Livelihood on Wheels program. The training equipped him with practical livelihood skills, confidence-building support, and the motivation to restart his life.

Today, Sudip has successfully rebuilt his life. He works as a delivery partner with Zomato and earns approximately ₹20,000 per month — significantly improving his family’s financial condition and restoring his independence. In addition, he is exploring new opportunities through YouTube content creation to supplement his income and pursue his interests.

Despite challenges such as navigating difficult roads and working with physical limitations, Sudip continues to move forward with determination and courage. His journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support, opportunities, and resilience, individuals with disabilities can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

“This opportunity helped me restart my life. Today, I am independent and hopeful about my future.” – Sudip Das
