Finding His Voice Through Employment
Harirajan is a 25-year-old young man with speech and hearing impairment. Coming from a financially vulnerable family in Madurai, Harirajan grew up in a household of three where his father was unemployed and his mother worked as a housemaid to support the family. With limited income and increasing responsibilities, the family looked toward Harirajan’s future with hope and determination.
Despite the barriers created by his disability and financial challenges, Harirajan remained eager to build an independent life. However, limited access to training and employment opportunities made it difficult for him to secure stable work and gain confidence in his abilities.
A turning point came when he enrolled in employability skills training at Cheshire Disability Trust in Madurai. Through the program, Harirajan received grooming and practical training for the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) sector. The initiative helped him strengthen workplace readiness, communication skills, and confidence while preparing him for sustainable employment.
Following the training, Harirajan visited several restaurants as part of his placement journey before successfully securing employment at Hotel Suvai on Netaji Road, Madurai. Today, he works in the kitchen and actively participates in cooking activities, showing dedication and enthusiasm in his role.
Harirajan currently earns a monthly salary of approximately ₹17,000 and is proud to contribute toward his family’s well-being. Passionate about cooking, he now aspires to grow professionally and become an assistant chef in the future.
