Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP)

Who is an Entrepreneur?

He/she is a person who develops and owns his own enterprise / a person who starts a new business venture. He/she is a moderate risk taker and works under uncertainty for achieving the goal (A common misperception about entrepreneurs is that entrepreneurs are wild risk takers. Entrepreneurs do take risks, but only calculated ones. One of the abilities successful entrepreneurs share is the ability to evaluate risks).

The objective of the Programme is to identify persons with entrepreneurial quality, to motivate them and to train them through a structured training course so as to enable them to set up their own small scale industrial ventures with the assistance available from different agencies.
Under The Entrepreneur Development Program concepts covered are introduction to Entrepreneur Development Program, Business development, motivation, strategies, marketing and knowing customers. Then Business management, accounting, financial statement, documentation, access to Government schemes and financial resources available locally, cash flow management, repayment of loans, thrift and savings etc, are taught to them.

These concepts help build confidence in PwDs that they can handle their own ventures better and take the enterprises to new levels of success and thereby become role models for other PwDs to take up Self Employment as a viable sustainable Livelihoods option.
Cheshire Disability Trust has also published a hand book of Self Employment for Persons with Disability. This Handbook of Self Employment for persons with disability is a reference manual for all interested in nurturing self employment as a viable, sustainable livelihood option.
